What does ODL mean?

ODL stands for Open and Distance Learning. It allows students to study flexibly, anywhere and anytime, without being limited to traditional classrooms. Most of the learning is done online with support from lecturers and digital platforms

In conventional study, you attend face-to-face lectures regularly on campus. In ODL, more than 60% of courses are delivered online, using learning platforms and digital resources. You still have chances for face-to-face or virtual sessions, but they are fewer and more flexible

SIM are specially designed learning materials prepared for ODL students. They are written in a simple, friendly style to help you learn on your own. SIM may include printed modules, e-books, videos, online activities, self-tests, and feedback

Because ODL students learn at a distance, SIM become your main guide. They are designed to be self-explanatory, interactive, and motivating, so you can follow the lessons independently while still being connected to your lecturers and tutors

You’ll interact with lecturers and tutors through online learning platforms, discussion forums, emails, or live virtual classes. Some programmes also provide scheduled physical or online face-to-face sessions.

Yes. Besides SIM, ODL provides support through online consultations, tutors, and discussion forums. You are encouraged to ask questions and engage actively so you don’t feel isolated.

Flexibility means you can learn at your own pace, choose when and where to study, and balance your studies with work or personal commitments. Learning materials and activities are available online, so you can access them anytime

Yes, but not all assessments are exams. ODL uses a mix of methods, including online quizzes, assignments, projects, discussions, and sometimes proctored exams. The aim is to measure your learning outcomes fairly and flexibly.

They include interactive SIM, online discussions, group projects, and tutor support. Some programmes also provide analytics tools to track your progress, so lecturers can give feedback and encouragement when needed

Yes. ODL programmes are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and graduates receive the same recognised qualification as students in conventional programmes
